Print: Baxter CL 353 - It is signed on the right, "London, Published by the Proprietor, George Baxter, Patentee, 11 & 12, Northampton Square March 1st, 1854.”
Baxter announced in his Pictorial Key (to the Great Exhibition), published in 1851 that it will “shortly to be published” This still took some years to produce but this is relevant as the original painting, after the well-known artist Fanny Corbaux, was exhibited in the 1851 Exhibition. A Baxter advertisement stated “From the beautiful painting by that talented artist Miss F. Corbaux, which was so admired by Her Majesty (Queen Victoria) at the Exhibition, and elicited the highest encomiums of the public press. Each copy is a perfect facsimile of the original picture”
Produced from a steel engraved plate and fourteen metal colour blocks, and was originally sold at 10s. 6d.
