Print: Baxter - CL 236 - Taken from the famous picture by Rubens.
It sold in large numbers in many Roman Catholic countries including France hence the title in French can be found on some mounts. Not a rare print but quite hard to find in good condition as, presumably, most copies were prominently displayed and hence faded in the direct sunlight.
The print was produced from a plate and fourteen blocks and is said by a number of writers as being Baxter’s greatest work. Sold originally at 3s.
