Harrison Weir born in Lewes in 1824 and became a well known animal painter during the 1800's.
When he was 13 he was apprenticed to George Baxter in London. As GB had been away from Lewes some 9-10 years before this local lad from his home town came to join him we must presume that GB's father, who had run a successful printing business in the town since the early 1800's and Harrison Weir's father who was a local bank manager, must have known each other - were they instrumental in getting the young HW his new employment.
Can any one assist with information regarding Harrison Weir's early life and his time with George Baxter before he left in 1844 to work with other ex Baxter apprentices - Gregory Collins and Reynolds and George Leighton (Leighton Bros) and the illustrated London News
